Errol Cumberbatch is a proud Army veteran with over 20 years of service to our great nation. Today, he remains a passionate and credentialed soccer enthusiast with a diverse sports background as a coach, former player, and soccer referee.
Errol’s unwavering passion for soccer and his proven ability to lead, teach, coach, and mentor others saw him seamlessly transition to coaching after he “hung up his cleats.” In 2015, he set out on a path to further develop and refine his soccer coaching skills by enrolling in a series of United States Soccer Federation Coaching pathway courses, earning several licenses and certifications (USSF-ID: 2015-0000-0311-9120). In 2016, he embarked on one of the greatest challenges he has faced as a coach thus far and embraced the challenge of building a soccer team from scratch to compete in a National Tournament. With the help of a few senior leaders, he successfully scouted and recruited local talent, organized tryouts, conducted practices, and planned and coordinated efforts to transport and house 23 athletes from Fayetteville, NC, to San Antonio, TX. Ultimately, he led the team to win the championship above 46 other competitors, finishing the competition without a single defeat and only conceding one goal during regular play. In 2018, Errol served as an assistant coach for the All-Army Soccer Trial Camp, where he helped to identify the best athletes to compete in the annual Armed Forces Championships and provided performance feedback and appraisals to the lucky few selected to the camp. Errol’s coaching prowess and player development techniques have enabled many players to earn selection to higher-level military competitions equivalent to NCAA Div 1 soccer, along with global competitions held by the International Military Sports Council. In September 2023, he delivered success once again by winning his 2nd National Defenders Cup Tournament.
Errol previously coached in the First Flight League, where he once led his team throughout an entire season without a single defeat. He last coached in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). He finished the Fall 2023 UPSL regular season in fourth place, earning a spot in the playoffs, where he coached his team to a semi-final berth in their inaugural appearance in the league. Errol maintains an ever-present commitment to developing soccer players, promoting the beautiful game, and making it accessible to all who desire to play it. He brings a modern coaching philosophy, proven expertise, years of experience, and a winning culture to our team.
